Art meets industrial culture — Leipzig's scene districts and the Spinnerei
Plagwitz was once Leipzig's industrial heart. Today it's the creative one — galleries, studios, cafés in old brick halls. To really understand Leipzig, you have to visit the Spinnerei.
The Baumwollspinnerei in Plagwitz is a myth: artists, gallerists and creatives have settled on the grounds of the former cotton mill. Galerie Eigen+Art regularly shows works by Neo Rauch and peers.
Around it: the Karl-Heine-Straße with independent cafés, bars and concept stores. In summer, walk along the Karl-Heine canal — industrial romance meets water and old brick.
From Gerichtsweg you reach Plagwitz in 15 minutes by tram. After gallery-hopping, return to your own apartment instead of a hotel lobby.
